Miscellaneous Issues

1. First Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe - Strasbourg: The need for cross-border protection was recognised and the Strasbourg Resolutions initiated a broad scientific and technical co-operation throughout Europe. Moreover, the Strasbourg Conference was a major step in initiating the incorporation of scientific data into political action for the protection of European Forests.

2. Second Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe - Helsinki: The Helsinki Resolutions and the General Declaration constitute a joint response of the European countries to many of the forest decisions taken in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

3. Third Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe - Lisbon: The General Declaration and the two Resolutions adopted put special emphasis on socio-economic aspects of sustainable forest management - focussing on the relationship and interaction between forest and society.

4. Fourth Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe - Vienna: The principal goals of the Vienna Conference included protecting the biological diversity of forests in Europe, further, creating an awareness of the value of forest goods and services and encouraging their marketing, as well as clarifying the cultural significance of the forest.

5. Forest Principles (UN Conference on Environment and development): A set of principles to underlie the sustainable management of forests worldwide.

World Summit on Sustainable Development, Johannesburg: Adoption of resolutions concerning the efficient use of water resources in agriculture, forestry, wetlands, the implementation of programmes to address deforestation, erosion, land degradation, loss of biodiversity and the sustainable forest management of both natural and planted forests.
