INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES AND PROGRAMMES ON FOREST ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION

EU Strategies

1. EU biodiversity Strategy: This strategy will help both to reverse present trends in biodiversity reduction or losses and to place species and ecosystems, including agro-ecosystems, at a satisfactory conservation status, both within and beyond the territory of the EU.

2. EU forestry Strategy: This strategy compensates for the fact that the Treaties on European Union make no provision for a comprehensive common forestry policy. The management, conservation and sustainable development of forests are nevertheless vital concerns of existing common policies like the CAP and the rural development, environment, trade, internal market, research, industry, development cooperation and energy policies.

3. EU Strategy for sustainable development: This strategy contains a number of concrete proposals for how the EU can improve its policy making to make it more coherent and focussed on the long term, as well as a number of specific headline objectives and the measures needed to achieve them.
